A New Agricultural Cycle Begins: A Look Back at the Activities of Our Producers

The end of summer marked the start of a new agricultural cycle for our member producers, who are entering a new phase of intensive work following the harvest season. This is a crucial time for crop preparation, involving essential practices for soil sustainability and health.

Farms Maintenance

As the lavender harvest was coming to an end and the fennel harvest was in full swing in some farms during August, it was time for others to prepare the distilleries for winter, after running at full capacity all summer. The producers took the opportunity to carry out a thorough inspection of their equipment to ensure it operates smoothly for the next season.

Soil Maintenance and Preparation

The old plantations were uprooted in August, while September and October were dedicated to soil preparation for the new crop cycle. This involved weeding the existing plots, adding trace elements before winter, spreading compost, plowing the fields, and preparing the soil before sowing or planting, depending on the different crops to be cultivated. These are essential steps to ensure the crops grow in conditions favorable to their healthy development.

Semis et Plantations

The end of summer also marked the start of the sowing season, beginning with Clary Sage in August. This was followed by the sowing of Coriander in early autumn. Lavender sowing will start in November, with the planting of Lavandin and clonal Lavender scheduled from December, continuing through early spring. During this time, our producers anticipate seeing the first signs of the upcoming harvest.

Integrated Agriculture

The beginning of autumn was also dedicated to sowing cover crops between rows. These will help store water, carbon, and nutrients from the soil during the winter season, while also contributing to soil aeration and limiting erosion in farms that practice integrated agriculture. Such actions reflect our producers' ongoing commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.

A Sustainable Commitment for the Future

Every action, from uprooting to sowing and planting, contributes not only to the quality of future harvests but also to the preservation of our soils and local biodiversity. We are proud to share these practices with you, which place sustainability and innovation at the heart of our activities.
